This version cannot save documents, but it will print anything you create or load with a large cross in the background.
We couldn't include a full manual with this demo, so instead we have created a sample document and below are all the necessary instructions to enable you to recreate it yourself.
The sample document is in the Demo Tutorial folder and is called "sample document".
HOW WE DID IT - Building the DesignStudio Demo Page
If you have a colour or greyscale monitor, first set it to display 256 colours or greyscales.
In the following we refer to certain DesignStudio tools. They can all be found in the horizontal toolbar at the top of the document window, and are named as follows (reading left to right):
Arrow tool, Rotation tool, Grabber tool, Text block tool, Text tool, Linker tool, Picture block tool, Cropping tool, Rectangle tool, Straight line tool, Circle tool, Polygon tool.
In the tutorial you will only be using the following tools: Arrow tool, Text block tool, Text tool, Picture block tool, Cropping tool, Rectangle tool.
Start by double-clicking the DesignStudio file Letraset layout in the Demo Tutorial folder╤an A4 size page opens with one or two items already in place. Then╔
(1) Text block
With the Text block tool, drag a rectangle╤it doesn╒t matter where or what size for now. (Normally you╒d create blocks with automatic alignment using DesignStudio╒s grid or guidelines.)
Ñ To import the text, click in the block with the Text tool, choose File: Get Text and double-click DesignStudio text in the dialogue box.
Ñ Choose Edit: Select All, then choose font, size and leading options from the Format menu to set the text as 10pt Times with 14pt leading.
Ñ To size and position the text block accurately, double-click the text block with the Arrow tool ╤the block╒s Specifications window appears. Now type these figures in the first four boxes: 9.35, 1.6, 8.6, 10, pressing Tab between each (the box names explain themselves), and click OK.
(2) A second text block
Create this just as you did for step 2: this time import Sketcher text, change the text to 10/14pt Times as before, and use the figures 11.8, 8.6, 16.4, 12.75 to position and size the block.
Ñ While the Specifications window is open, click the Text Shape button and select the third icon in the top row. Now click OK, and the text will flow to the new shape.
(3) LetraStudio illustration
Select the Picture block tool and drag a rectangle.
Ñ To import a picture, click in the block with the Cropping tool, choose File: Get Picture and double-click power & ease.eps in the dialogue box.
Ñ Click the block with the Arrow tool, choose Object: Move to Back, then double-click the block with the Arrow tool to display the Specifications window.
Ñ Position and size it as follows: 1.75, 1.45, 11.9, 3.95.
Ñ Scale the picture to 120% by typing 120 in the Scale Across and Scale Down boxes.
Ñ Finally, select Graphic from the Runaround pop-up, and
click OK.
(4) Sketcher illustration
Create another picture block at lower left and import the file pencil.pict. With its accurate simulation of natural media, Sketcher is ideal for getting rid of the ╘DTP look╒.
Ñ Click the block with the Arrow tool, and choose Object: Move to Back so that it lies under any adjacent text blocks.
(5) Painter texture
Create a tall picture block, import the file texture.pict, move or re-size it if you wish, and choose Object: Move to Back. The texture was created using Painter, the full-colour counterpart of Sketcher. (You can create monochrome textures in Sketcher just as easily.)
(6) Coloured text blocks
Select text by dragging with the Text tool, and change its colour by choosing from the Format: Colour sub-menu.
(7)Printing your document
You can print on any PostScript or Quickdraw printer. To ensure best results, first double-click each of the PICT graphics in turn (5 and 6) and check ╘Fast Print PICT2' in its Specifications window.
Ñ Use Chooser to select the printer.
Ñ Choose File: Print and click OK. (This demonstration version of DesignStudio overprints the document with a cross.)
(8) Dotted-line border
With the Rectangle tool, drag a rectangle to cover most of the page. Choose Draw: Lines and select the fourth dotted line from the sub-menu.
Ñ You can re-size the border at any time╤click it with the Arrow tool and drag any handle.
Ñ To make existing page items accessible, move the border behind them╤click it with the Arrow tool and choose Object: Move to Back.
